This morning I lead the Torah study for my synagogue's Torah study group. The Torah is a parchment scroll that consists of the 5 Books of Moses, handed down for centuries. It's all in Hebrew without vowels or trope. Trope are little marks signifying a musical phrase so that we know how to chant, or in my case, sing the portions.
Fortunately, we have databases that have the English translation plus commentary over the centuries and there's a lot of modern commentary. That made it easier for me! It didn't hurt that one of our group is much more learned in the history of these stories and we all pitch in with our own interpretation, if we want to.
I am learning so much and felt very supported. 😇
